Looking for somewhere to relax and enjoy the magnificent Portuguese weather? Check out your list of Top 10 Terraces in Lisbon! And brace yourself, because not all terraces in Lisbon are equal and you’ll not find this list anywhere else. There really are some breath-taking terraces in Lisbon.

Our Top 10 Terraces in Lisbon

We will briefly describe them and their location, the reason we consider them special and much more. When developing this list, we had 2 things into consideration:

  • where could you see and experience the most of what Lisbon has to offer?
  • where could you abandon the concrete jungle without really leaving Lisbon?

Keeping this in mind and wanting you to have a unique experience while visiting Lisbon, we present you our list of Top 10 Terraces in Lisbon. The list presents these Terraces randomly since we believe they are all fantastic in their own way. You will find out that there are some common traces between them. The sympathy of the staff, the view, or the quality of the service are only some of them. But let’s get started, shall we? Ah and btw, the best way to reach each terrace might just be by using the Lisboa Card. check what we wrote about the Lisboa Card how it works and why it’s worth it.

Denis Chef

The first on the list. What would you say about having a piece of the most wonderful handmade pastry in the middle of a Desert Oasis, while never leaving Lisbon?

It is exactly what Denis Chef offers. Described as a modern and elegant space located in the very heart of Lisbon, this definitely deserves its place on our top 10 Terraces in Lisbon.

Location Denis Chef Lisbon

Denis chef is located in Praça Dom Luís i 30, 1200-148 Lisboa (basically near time-out market and cais-do-sodré metro station) Check out google maps directions to Denis chef below:

The pure joy of having one of Denis Galygin’s creations in a beautiful old courtyard, surrounded by palm trees and fresh air translates in a unique experience.

Although the menu varies from time to time, in order to get the most from the seasonal ingredients, one thing is for sure: the deliciousness of the handcrafted creations you will be served exceed any expectation you might have. Denis uses organic ingredients from all over the world (including Portugal and the Azores) to create a wide range of desserts (from eclairs to chocolate cakes and others). Desserts cost on average 3.5€, which is, in my opinion, a very good deal. Every single dessert is worth trying, but I’d recommend you try this “chocolate cake

Memmo Top Terraces Lisbon

In order to have full access to the pool, you have to be a guest at the Hotel over which the Terrace is located. Check out Memmo’s location (Tv. Merceeiras 27, 1100-348 Lisboa) on Google Maps below:

Rio Maravilha Terrace

Before we go any further, let us remind you that one of the best places to visit in Lisbon is the LX Factory. In short, the reason we think it is a “must see” in Lisbon is so that you get the feeling of what it is possible to do when you have some vision. In this case, the vision was to turn an abandoned, industrial place, in one of the coolest and progressive places in Lisbon.

Rio Maravilha Top Terraces Lisbon

Among all the impressive things you will find in the LX Factory is the Terrace of the Rio Maravilha Bar and Restaurant. Nowadays it is known as a beautiful place to have a drink or enjoy a meal with a privileged view over the Tagus and the 25 de Abril bridge. In the old days, this was the canteen of the workers of this industrial area. Check out Rio Maravilha’s location (R. Rodrigues de Faria 103, 1300-501 Lisboa) on Google Maps below:

Their offer consists of chef-designed dishes, original cocktails and an industrial, but contemporary décor. Also, check out their menu! However, it is our modest opinion that it is the sunset that wins it all. And that’s why it deserves its place as one of the 10 best Terraces in Lisbon.

What’s the best Lisbon terrace?

So there you have it, our list of Top 10 Terraces in Lisbon. As we previously said, these are not the only 10 great terraces in Lisbon. There is much more to see and to explore. Even for those who living in Lisbon, some of these places are hidden gems that they discover months or years after they open.

Going to a Portuguese terrace is a cultural thing

If you are thinking about visiting Lisbon, or any other place in Portugal for that matter, you will see that nearly each little coffee shop or pastry shop has its own terrace or “Esplanada” as it’s called in Portuguese. Why? Just think about the weather in Portugal throughout the year. About 300 days of sunshine! Beautiful, neat, sunshine, readily available to be enjoyed. Wouldn’t you pause for a second and enjoy an Esplanada? Maybe just for a little expresso? Or a nice, cold beer? Maybe a cocktail at sunset?

Terraces in Lisbon and Portuguese old habits…

That’s exactly what the Portuguese people like to do. Just old Portuguese traditions. Some say it’s a habit the Portuguese learned with the French from Paris. We don’t really know, but it may be. Either way, we are just glad it is so. Because after a long day of work, or on a hot summer night, or on a beautiful weekend day, one of the best things to do is to relax on a beautiful terrace, enjoy the sun, the wind, the view, the company or the silence. Don’t really know what to do or where to go next in Lisbon? Check out 10 free things to do in Lisbon!
